I have it as my default. The system does hiccup sometimes, and if you
want something that doesn't hiccup then maybe Gentoo isn't the best
choice. Gentoo works well for someone who wants the ability to do a
lot of the stuff that distribution-makers would have done for them.

(I'm sure it works well for others, too, but I'm in the
want-to-be-able-to-do-it-myself group.)
