If you don't have /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs_pre6 the new kernel's `make 
modules_install` failed.

If you do have /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs_pre6 but not the video directory, 
the `emerge nvidia-kernel` failed (or you haven't booted the new kernel) 
-- what does `uname -r` say?

The nvidia.o belongs to the running kernel; you can't copy from another 
kernel's modules.

It looks as if you've built the kernel but not booted into it.  Look at 
the remarks at the end of the build-kernel script I sent.
