The app-admin/gentoolkit package has some useful tools for querying
packages, most notably qpkg. For example:

# qpkg -fp xlsfonts
x11-base/xfree *

Of course, I already have xlsfonts on my system, but I believe qpkg
provides a way to query uninstalled packages too.
