I figured what the hell and did chmod 0777 /dev/video0 and it works as user. I guess camstream does need to write to the device...dmesg was giving a lot of messages like this: quickcam: warning -> frame overflow (51) But that seems to have ended now too. I haven't tried to pipe video yet but frame capture works. I don't know if I can help you but I'll try.
