Once I emerged hotplug and rc-update add hotplug default, my system boots up and recognizes the usb mouse. bash-2.05b# lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c504 Logitech, Inc.
