Don't get me wrong.  I love gentoo, and I think that both parties in the
Welch/Robbins dispute (and you as well, Martin) have contributed
immensely to Open Source.  One of the principle reasons that I (and
others) might choose to whine is this.  Based on the published material,
Dan's reason for leaving the Stampede team sounds almost identical to
Zach's reason for leaving the Gentoo team.  Both found themselves in an
environment where they could contribute but effectively have little or
nothing to say in the direction of the project.  This is a sad state of
affairs, and, as you can see, leads to harsh feelings all around.
