hi there,

for months now i got the problem that X eats my mem and cpu after running awhile.
i dont know the problem, since other guys told me they got much less problems than me
with this...

does anyone know a problem that could cause this? i could imagine its got something to
do with gtk, since especially gtk apps seem to slow down after a while of running
them... for example gaim. it slows down and when i quit it it (sometimes) takes
minutes until its finished swapping (removing it from memory i think).

any clue about this? here's a small cut from my "top" status atm:

top - 19:19:28 up 11 days, 28 min, 10 users, load average: 0.04, 0.32, 0.51
Tasks: 129 total, 1 running, 128 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 4.9% user, 8.2% system, 0.0% nice, 86.8% idle
Mem: 514640k total, 501640k used, 13000k free, 21120k buffers
Swap: 554200k total, 335552k used, 218648k free, 133064k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND

 7523 root 15 0 637m 222m 6120 S 3.0 44.2 922:50.18 X

as you can see X uses about 44% of my memory at the moment (cpu time ok atm). when i
restart x its all okay for a few hours again... but then its just the same again :-(
