Thanx for your reply. Meanwhile I fixed the problem after stumbling upon a mail in the mailing-list which addressed the same problem. I just downloaded the font-....tar.bz2 files from mplayer and put them under /usr/portage/distfiles and now it works (at least it is compiling for now ...).
