mplayer is getting closer then and thing else I tired. It starts then fails with these errors. I noticed I do not have a conf file, and not sure how to create it, and cant find DOCS/codecs.html!
first of all: did you run an "emerge win32codecs divx4linux" ? i prefer xine. run xine, then simply choose VCD from the gui. that's it! make sure in settings => input => path to your local vcd device file is set right.
