I did do the mirrorselect both auto and interactive and I selected sites I knew to be working. Still did not work.
So I got PO'd and formated the partition again and redid the untar'ing of stage 1, skipped the mirrorselect part and it works. It's currently syncing right now. Thanks for the suggestions.
