simply mv /etc/init.d/net.eth0 /etc/init.d/do_not_start.net.eth0
this way you still have the original file just in case you need it...
didn't test it but I think this is as gracefull a solution as I can think of
right away...

Anything that depends on net.

Your best bet is to move net.eth0 outside /etc/init.d leaving just
net.lo (which should satiate the net-hungry services).
