I'm using genkernel-1.8 and gentoo-sources-2.4.22-r4. I haven't had any problems. I've also gone into the kernel and made changes, and it recompiles just fine.

Lucky u ! Since lot of us do not succeed and still do it by hand :-), (there is nothing wrong with it !) would u be so kind and write a mini howto ?
i.e. I only need to know these two things:
1. how to run genkernel with existing .config in source directory
2. how to migrate .config to upper/different version of kernel with genkernel
