Answering my own post here..
I was finally able to solve a font issue I've been having with some non-KDE apps while running KDE. It's a nastly little hack but it works.
| gnome-font-properties & sleep 1 && killall -9 gnome-font-properties
Mozilla and gFTP application fonts will then look the same in KDE as they do in Gnome.
Now I just gotta figure out where I can put that for X/KDE startup. I tried both .xinitrc and .xsession, but it doesn't seem to work either place.
So I made an alias in my .bashrc
alias doh!="gnome-font-properties & sleep 1 && \ ~ killall -9 gnome-font-properties"
