I am not sure how you deduced he can use the i810? Surely thats only if he has Intel chips on his board. My board has VIA VT8233 chips and so I had to enable the VT82?? option in the kernel.
What you need to do is look at your motherboard manual and find out what the sound chip is. If its VIA it is likely to be VT82?? and if its Intel its likely to be i810. The good news is that you no matter what you have you should be able to get it working without any problems. Kevin.
