Seems to me that somethings wrong with your inittab...
Okay -- someplace to start looking. I'm in the middle of an '--update world' on the box in question, so I will have to wait to look at it.
Is there anything specific that I should be looking for when I looking into this? My knowledge of the nuts-and-bolts is derived mostly from problems encountered; since I haven't run into this problem before, I'm not sure where to start. :)
