Hi Frank,

you have to add dvdr to your USE flags. This enables several libraries and
function necessary to burn dvds. The flag dvd just tells Gentoo you have a
DVD rom and want to read dvds - bei it data, video or music.
I don't think emerge -u world compiles everything you need to burn dvds. Use
emerge -uadv --newuse world and you'll be save.
