You might have to write a rule in /etc/udev/rules.d.  See -

I've used a few of the internal Koutech USB digital card readers.  The only
caveat is a decent power supply is needed.  Poor power supplies cause a lot
of noise, thus interferes with the parallel to serial conversion.

That said, I never bothered with the udev rules, just either left a card
plugged in or was doing a usb net setup through the USB port on the
card reader.  And that had it's own script.
