Slow xattr is a known problem, see bugs 482290, 465000: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482290 https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465000 But xattr bug shows itself during install phase and has nothing to do with dependency calculation time mentioned in the original mail.
