Here's very good advice for the OP: Do not do this. Walter does it, and he finds it works for him. He's been doing it for years and nothing will persuade him to do it any other way. You should not do with USE what Walter does. Trust me, it will lead you down a path of immense pain that you do not have the tools to get out of, and when you ask here for help you will be told to take that -* out of USE. No offense Walter, but this is really bad advice to give someone brand new to Gentoo.
