It turns out to be a trivial task:

Loop mount the ISO
Copy the kernel, initramfs and filesystem files to /boot/sysrcd
Add this to /boot/loaders/entries

title   System Rescue Cd
version 4.7.2
linux   /sysrcd/rescue64
options subdir=sysrcd setkmap=uk rootpass=wasspord
initrd  /sysrcd/initram.igz

Reboot!
