Well, I just mentioned it because a while ago I had exactly the same
problem with Konsole 18.04. It's fixed now, but back then I had to use
another terminal application as a workaround.

I am using x11-terms/rxvt-unicode-9.22-r1

Well, have you tried another one? What about from a console? (Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get to one.)
