Basically, when you need to. I lived with 2.6.16 until two weeks ago, and before 2.6.16 I lived with 2.6.12 much longer. If you don't feel the need of a new kernel, I don't see any reason to upgrade. I usually upgrade when something needs it, when I feel it would be an improvement or, more simply, I take the occasion to upgrade when I have to recompile: but it's just me. I did upgrade to 2.6.18 just because I upgraded to gcc 4.1 and having to recompile the kernel, I also upgraded, but I could have happily lived recompiling 2.6.16. m. -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
