OK, xorg elog (I think) mentioned that you should copy the /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-input.fdi into /etc/hal/fdi/policy/ and customize it to your needs. Otherwise, knock up a basic /etc/xorg.conf to get your Xorg going. I think that in all likelihood this is the cause of your problem. > > I have not seen the errors you are getting in your log before, but I > > noticed libc.so.6 - have you run revdep-rebuild -p -i or revdep-rebuild > > -p -i -- library libc.so.6 just in case? > > revdep-rebuild is clean! > > emerge @preserved-rebuild -p > > These are the packages that would be merged, in order: > > Calculating dependencies... done! > [ebuild R ] sys-fs/reiserfsprogs-3.6.19-r2 > [ebuild R ] sys-apps/util-linux-2.16.1 > [ebuild R ] sys-fs/cryptsetup-1.0.6-r2 > [ebuild R ] gnome-base/libbonoboui-2.24.1 > [ebuild R ] net-libs/webkit-gtk-1.1.10 > [ebuild R ] media-gfx/graphviz-2.24.0-r2 > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/openmotif-2.3.2 > [ebuild R ] sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.9 > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/libSM-1.1.1 > [ebuild R ] sys-apps/hal-0.5.13-r2 > [ebuild R ] media-libs/jasper-1.900.1-r3 > [ebuild R ] net-libs/libproxy-0.2.3-r2 > [ebuild R ] gnome-base/libgnomeui-2.24.1 > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/libXt-1.0.7-r1 > [ebuild R ] sys-apps/pmount-0.9.20 > [ebuild R ] x11-libs/libXpm-3.5.8 > [ebuild R ] media-libs/t1lib-5.1.2 > [ebuild R ] media-libs/giflib-4.1.6-r1 > [ebuild R ] media-gfx/imagemagick-6.5.7.0 > [ebuild R ] media-libs/libcaca-0.99_beta16 > [ebuild R ] app-text/texlive-core-2008-r7 > [ebuild R ] app-text/xdvik-22.84.14 > > > I've rebuilt these same packages over several times. > I think the @preserved-rebuild tool is bonkers.... There's been a couple of threads in the last 3-4 months in this list mentioning this problem. I am still on the old portage and therefore didn't read them close enough to remember the suggested fix. Have a look and if you can't find them then I will try to dig them out. BTW, does: revdep-rebuild -p -i --library libc.so.6 also end up in a loop? -- Regards, Mick
