I attempted two new GeoServer installations in my Windows 7 PC today. In the
first attempt, I installed Tomcat 7 (using its Windows installer) and
installed GeoServer via the war file. In the second attempt, I uninstalled
Tomcat 7 and installed GeoServer using the Windows installer. In both
cases, I had the following common successes, but also the common problems
(problems after the "HOWEVER" below):

1.  I can log in as admin or as another user;
2. I can access all the pages in the "Server" group of links (Server
Status, Contact, Info, etc.)
3. I can access everything in the "Data" group of links, and I can
establish data stores, upload style files, establish stores, and publish
layers.
4. I can access all pages in the "Security" group of links (Users, Data
security, etc.)
5. I can access all pages in the "Demos" link (SRS List and Demo Requests)

HOWEVER, In the "Services" group, when I click on the WCS, WFS, and WMS
links, I get identical error messages. I also get the same error message
when I click on the "Layer Preview" link. I have attached the error message
screen shot as "ErrorMerged.jpg" file.

As far as I can tell, the environment variables and system variables are all
correctly set for GEOSERVER_HOME, JAVA_HOME, and GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR.

Does anybody have any ideas on what might be causing this, and hence what I
should do to make GeoServer work for me on my Windows 7 machine? Any
assistance you may be able to offer to this newbie would be greatly
appreciated! Here is the error message file:
