Hi list,
I'm working on a new server with the latest software:
Ubuntu 12
Tomcat 7
OpenJDK 7
Geoserver 2.2.1
PostgreSQL 9.1
PostGIS 2
JAI + JAI I/O
I have 1GB of RAM and 80GB of disk. I use a Cloudserver from RackSpace.
I also have a server with
Ubuntu 11
Tomcat 6
SunJava
Geoserver 2.1.3
PostgreSQL 9.1
PostGIS 1.5
On both servers I use the same data from the PostGIS database.
On the new server I use a 4GB GeoTiff as aerial photo, on the 'old' server
I use Google Maps as reference.
On both servers I have enabled 'Enable direct integration with GeoServer
WMS'
I have not tuned any servers, they both use out-of-the box settings.
On my new server the GeoTiff layer is performing great (without caching).
When I seed 10 levels for this layer and use the 'Tile layers' preview
zooming and loading is very slow.
When I preview the database layer it is terribly slow. I just have a simple
style for my polygons: no fill, yellow outline. When I seed it for GWC the
preview of the cached layers is a bit faster, but still not as fast as with
my old server.
I have two other PostGIS layers that perform badly as well.
I've made a third server and tuned it as suggested here:
http://opengeo.org/publications/geoserver-production/
http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/Tuning_Your_PostgreSQL_Server
http://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/kernel-resources.html
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/performance-tuning-with-system-control-sysctl-in-ubuntu.html
But that didn't made a difference.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Paul
