Hi,

By reading first few hits about "Remote host closed connection during
handshake" from the web that handshaking happens between server and client and
network in between is probably not so important. But in some cases update to
jre 1.7 was needed, in some case Tomcat was handling connections badly and
sometimes the remote server was just busy and closed the connection. Enabling
SSL logging like in this thread https://github.com/mwkirk/javapns/issues/32
feels like a good idea.

If you find what is going wrong please report. There may be also something to
fix in Geoserver or at least in the documentation.

Aihe: Re: [Geoserver-users] Is there an issue with WMS cascading and https ?

Hi,

Thanks, that's an interesting information.
Since I got the same error from geoserver on my server and from a geoserver
instance on my desktop computer, I supposed it wasn't the network config, but
maybe it is. I'll first try with a config similar to yours, to see if I'm
luckier.
Thanks !

Jean

Hi,

I made a test with Geoserver 2.8 milestone version on Windows, with Jetty and
cascading by using https and basic authentication works fine with our servers.
I could also publish without troubles the Fires24 layer from

https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/wms/?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GETCAPABILITIES

because the site does not seem to require username/password.

I think that the "Remote host closed connection during handshake" may come from
some general network things and not from Geoserver. Java version may have some
influence. I have a 1.8.0_40 (32-bit).

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for answering.

No, I'm not using any proxy. As a matter of fact, as it didn't work on my
server (using old geoserver 2.5.2), I checked locally on my computer, with
latest stable geoserver release (2.7.1). Doesn't work either.

So no proxy. Geoserver 2.7.1. And I tried both : connection pooling or not;
doesn't change anything, same error message.

Cheers,

Jean

Hi Jean,
wondering, are you going through a proxy to access that server?

Also, did you try switching the wms cascading store from the connection pooling
one,

to the non pooling configuration?

Finally, which version of GeoServer are you using?

Cheers

Andrea

Hi List,

A cascaded WMS service stopped working when the remote WMS source switched from
http to https. Is there a trouble with cascading https WMS sources ?

The source is MODIS fires :
https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/wms/?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GETCAPABILITIES

When trying to setup a new datastore using this URL, I get the following error :
"Le test de connexion a echoué : Remote host closed connection during
handshake".

I've search for answers, but found none. Any idea, someone ?

Thanks,

Jean
