Hi Andrea,
Thanks for the awesome support you guys are giving here.
My personal experience in this list began with an unanswered message,
then I poked everybody a little bit and got answered really fast, so I
appreciate your e-mail.
I do my best to be helpful, and most of my e-mail exchanges have been
with non developers.
Best,
Daniel

Hi all,
I'm reaching out to you on behalf of the GeoServer Project Steering
Committee because we need
help with the GeoServer user list.
As you might have noticed some mails are not getting answered, the
developers
need your help reducing the load so that they can concentrate on providing
help when a developer is really needed.
First off, we'd love if everybody could read the following two
resources, they are about
being good citizens in an open source community, and general rules to make
communication on the list more effective:
* Earning your support instead of buying it, but Ian Turton:
http://www.ianturton.com/talks/foss4g.html#/
* The GeoServer user list posting guidelines:
http://geoserver.org/comm/userlist-guidelines.html
From now on the two resources above are going to be linked at the
bottom of every mail on this list.
Then, we'd ask all users to help with the initial phases of the
conversation with people
new to the list. It happens that requests are vague, incomplete, or
cannot be readily reproduced.
Could you help by following up with these mails, and help your fellow
users provide enough details
so that the issue can be clearly identified and reproduced? (see also
the post guidelines above).
Also, when you see something that's more of a question than a issue
report, could you also try
to answer it based on your experience? Of course, nobody pretends to
see a flurry of responses
for each mail (that might actually be counter-productive), but when I
see for example a mail like
"Geoserver to fit view & edit purposes" and nobody answers it, I'm
wondering if really with
2000 subscribers, can it be true that nobody was able to answer it?
Not even part of it? :-)
Thank you for your attention! :-)

Andrea Aime
