Looks like Simone is not around to catch the ball this time... we have a
number of strong proposals this year (but also a lot more OSGeo
projects). I have "guessed" that we are willing to take on 2 students;
but hopefully this email thread will sort out a real answer for tomorrw.

- Image mosacing/pyramidal geotools plugin
<http://code.google.com/soc/2008/osgeo/app.html?csaid=OxsWGhhFWiALdh4RFgddVjMlNgULFkVQR3sDbREHQVlTVntXORICQgoGVQ%3D%3D%0A>
- KML reader for Geotools
<http://code.google.com/soc/2008/osgeo/app.html?csaid=OR0AAQ5bHTIVMRYIHgpfXQEWPRtKHBMfUiJLLRheFQgEBHVWbBBeXg1XC3ZRaUQ%3D%0A>
- H2 database spatial indexing
<http://code.google.com/soc/2008/osgeo/app.html?csaid=KAEBHg5aczcKMB0LBh8fUDtfaENdRFIDCidfbkcAQVIBUSI%3D%0A>

(perhaps another project would like to host this? we may wish to try
since we have an H2 datastore)
- Raster-to-Vector Module for GeoTools
<http://code.google.com/soc/2008/osgeo/app.html?csaid=NhoPHAdYUCwMNBYKEitWXiAMNF0HHAYLAiMGPREGQF0LHnJWOkNdEgoF%0A>
- Raster polygonalization for GeoTools
<http://code.google.com/soc/2008/osgeo/app.html?csaid=KBsREB9DUi8MPhokFAZQWi1LOxwJSQ1XAHFWYRIFSUYABHcGbENTFg%3D%3D%0A>

It looks like uDig also has a KML reader submission; we should probably
consider both together and see which one sounds like it is most probable
to succeed.
