Yes, following your "prepared statement" analogy for FeatureCollection it doesn't make a lot of sense to have CollectionListeners, and the user can register a FeatureListener with the FeatureSource instead. Do the toArray methods get used much ? As an aside, I'm starting to like the "prepared statement" or "view" model so much that I wonder if another attempt at reform could be made at some stage, ie. get rid of the add / remove methods from FeatureCollection. Perhaps one for GeoTools 2.8 ?
