master first, and if it changes public method signatures, I'm afraid master
only with
some indication on how to upgrade... sorry! :-(
In case that happens, let's also have a look at where the change happens
(front and center change
or obscure class in a corner that we don't expect anyone to use?)

Pay also attention to check if other libs are involved, sometimes upgrading
a lib
has cascading effects requiring other upgrades.

Besides that, no objection to an upgrade, we actually need to dust off many
of GeoTools dependencies.

Thinking out loud and compatible to available time, I'd also have a look at
using
JDK own classes without depending on an external library. But don't take me
too seriously
on this one, I'm worried it might be a lot of work.
