Be careful that geotools does not collapse under the burden of its own success: geotools has more and more users everyday, just scan the mailing list for people starting their email with 'hi I am a newbie' or similar. It seems easy enough to catch errors in snippets after code changes: just include them in the source tree. Whoever makes a change to the geotools code, is responsible for keeping everything else working properly, including the snippets.
