The "normal behavior" of geotools is to not take in account your provided
feature ID. But is possible to ask geotools to take it in account
but note that some stores don't support this.
To ask geotools to take in account the provided feature id you need to play
with this hints:
USE_PROVIDED_FID
PROVIDED_FID

An example code that builds a feature that will use the provided ID:
public static SimpleFeature constructFeature(SimpleFeatureType featureType,
String featureId, Map<String,
Object> attributes) {
// instanciating the feature builder
SimpleFeatureBuilder featureBuilder = new
SimpleFeatureBuilder(featureType);
featureBuilder.featureUserData(Hints.USE_PROVIDED_FID, Boolean.TRUE);
// adding the attributes
for (Map.Entry<String, Object> attribute : attributes.entrySet()) {
featureBuilder.set(attribute.getKey(), attribute.getValue());
}
// build the feature with the feature ID
return featureBuilder.buildFeature(featureId);
}
