Hi,
A couple people on the uDig developers list (from Quebec?) have been 
talking about a port of uDig for Windows CE.
I am afraid I have not paid very close attention, but I could arrange an 
introduction if needed.

Given the constraints please ask your intern to talk to the uDig 
developers list, and if you need a more detailed
assessment I can arrange a more formal response. Given the use of the 
SWT widget toolkit
the resulting application will look more like windows CE then Java.
