Once again, we get proof that leading U.S. businesses apply the
same primitive amateur routines that we hobbyists use in projects
such as OpenStreetMap. Why on earth would TeleAtlas, who gets
money from selling their maps and apparently can afford having a
person driving around cities and country, not have access to
engineering drawings of the on- and offramps of every motorway?
Why is the U.S. so full of amateurs? How can you build a road
(for taxpayers' money, I presume) and then forget where it was, so
you must go out and survey its position?
Because the government have perfect engineering drawing that detail
raod geomoetry to the nearest mm. But they dont know the things that
we want to know - Where is the pub? What is the pub called? Does the
pub serve fish on tuesdays? Significantly, they also do not know where
the roadsigns are, something that companies that make money selling
data for sat nav need to know.
