Years ago (1995) I wrote an article for GIS World about web mapping called "Web GIS: Toy or Tool?" when it wasn't so clear that web mapping was anything more than a toy. I've learned that cool toys often evolve into tools. The PC itself was once a toy. So was the GPS receiver. And then there's those tools called cell phones that want so badly to evolve into toys... (what's up with that when people want all the gizmos EXCEPT the phone part?) if Microsoft doesn't lock out everybody from tinkering with this toy and licensing it too narrowly, I bet it will be a significant part of the future of computing. That's a big "if" though. - Bill Thoen _______________________________________________ Geowanking mailing list [email protected] http://lists.burri.to/mailman/listinfo/geowanking
