You can find (some of the) Canadian Census admin boundaries and road
network
at http://www.statcan.ca/english/mapsgeo/index2.htm.  Those at higher
resolutions cost money to license.  Files are available in shp tab gml
formats.

You can find other types of freely available Canadian admin boundaries
and
data at 
http://www.geogratis.ca  and http://www.geobase.ca

There is... at least for Australia, where none of the Government
agencies release their data except under license.
