aesthetic at work and i personally don't think it serves the
community. it is time-consuming and tedious to try to map out
listings or try to scrape down craigslist and the like; even with
tools like yahoo pipes. i think it should be their job.

has anyone tried lobbying the nice folks at craigslist? even just to add an optional "address" field (street / city / state/ zip) to their "post listing" form?

most listings in NYC (apts, for sale, etc) are categorized by neighborhood. if there's other addressing information, it's squirreled away in the title or text of the listing (and agreed w/ anselm that trying to parsing existing listings for geodata a pain)

ideal would each posting for had an interface similar to geotagthings.com (now offline, but screenshot below). either drop a dot on a map or draw a boundary around the approximate area.

thank goodness this is geoWANKING.

flying cars and phones with gpses are industry wide consortium efforts.

maps in craigslist is one dude with a free day or two.

frankly the right point of addition of some features is in the silo;
there would be opportunities to tune forms to better collect location
information and to provide cautionary notices and the like. but it
would be hard to imagine something easier than what is available today
in terms of being able to slap in maps. so clearly there is a design
aesthetic at work and i personally don't think it serves the
community. it is time-consuming and tedious to try to map out

It's also simply unbelievable that it's almost 2008 and:
