I haven't tried the iPhone version - but the N95 version is similar
(which I found rather good) with just Cell positioning. I imagine
there may be some limits on whether multiple cell towers can be seen
with strengths. Worst case it would put you *at* the location of the
cell tower you are connected to.

Would be interested to know what type of filtering algorithms they're
using to get an estimate from so many 'sensor' measurements of varying
accuracy.

One major problem with the N95 GoogleMaps app is that it locks up if
you lose data connection. Anyone else experienced this on the iPhone
or N95?
