Dear Miranda and all,

I’d like to introduce you to the Association for the Advancement of
Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) which works with higher education
institutions to advance their sustainability innovations. If you are just
starting on your institution's sustainability journey, we generally recommend
that you get started focusing on establishing foundational structures
(committees, green funds, plans, positions, etc.) that bring more people into
the effort and can help guide the long term development of a successful
program. It may seem attractive to jump right into projects like installing
solar panels and changing lightbulbs, but you'll never be able to move fast
enough if you aren't able to bring more people/groups into the effort.
Furthermore, doing an assessment - using a tool like
STARS<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstars.aashe.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cstacy.vandeveer%40umb.edu%7Cd4dd5b0abe0a4f5897d708d7a36b1524%7Cb97188711ee94425953c1ace1373eb38%7C0%7C1%7C637157552638235727&sdata=FllrjtYAQFO%2Fc7Jcf8iKb0wYnD1P8tYyGKbEKmNACB8%3D&reserved=0>
(which provides a lot of free resources as well as a paid option) - can be a
great place to understand the opportunities available to you.

That being said, if they are just looking for ideas, there are hundreds of
inspiring examples in the AASHE Bulletin
archives<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbulletin.aashe.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cstacy.vandeveer%40umb.edu%7Cd4dd5b0abe0a4f5897d708d7a36b1524%7Cb97188711ee94425953c1ace1373eb38%7C0%7C1%7C637157552638245722&sdata=Pro%2BsvxPtvioDfLe6BzNFwTHs%2BLUgaXFEkNpn4AXFoo%3D&reserved=0>

Dear GEP-EDers

I’ve been asked to head up a task force at our university to upscale our
sustainability activities. I would be very appreciative if any of you who are
at universities doing something particularly powerful/effective in this area
could share it with me. I will be happy to collect and send around ideas.

Thanks!

Best wishes
