Michelle,

I can recommend an article that attempts to model climate change based on
various scenarios of rates of technological change, including those
related to oil extraction. The intro. in particular gives a good run down
of the various techno-fix narratives related to climate change circulating
out there.

Endogenous Structural Change and Climate Targets
Crassous, Renaud; Jean Charles Hourcade, and Olivier Sassi

You can pull it up at:
http://halshs.archives-ouvertes.fr/docs/00/06/01/81/PDF/Crassous_Hourcade_Sassi.pdf

Also the book...

The Long Emergency: Surviving the End of Oil, Climate Change, and Other
Converging Catastrophes of the Twenty-First Century
James H Kunstler, 2006

Sounds like and interesting project. Good luck with it!
