Dear GEP colleagues:

A friend of mine working as a senior economist in the Bush administration
just asked me if I could help him find information about costs related to
recycling. Specifically, he's looking for high-quality studies, hopefully
that demonstrate the cost effectiveness (presumably both in terms of energy
consumption and prices) of recycling.

If you or anyone you know might know the pertinent studies, please let me
know, and I will collect and send this information to him, a summary to the
list or individuals interested.

I've attached his message to me below.

…Congress tasked us to come up with a study that looks at the energy cost
associated with recycling. I think the fear some members had the last time
we passed a law to increase recycling incentives is that the energy used to
pick up and process the stuff may be energy intensive and reduce the cost
effectiveness of it. I've seen a couple of quasi-reputable studies that seem
to indicate that's not the case but I'd like to see a few more. Any ideas
would be helpful.
