GML is a nice place, but here are some simple suggestions that I think
would make it even nicer. Some minor changes to GML Charter and
Guidelines.
Julian keeps the Charter and Guidelines and posts them about the first of
each month. Julian is a democratic person who believes in consensus, so
if you agree with some of these suggestions, please reply here so he will
know I'm not alone. Thanks.
And of course, please add your own suggestions.
** Encourage use of existing basic Web references before posting a
message in GML. This is NOT to stifle questions, but only to reduce
repetition and the burden on experts who patiently answer our questions.
And to keep us all aware of what we agree is okay behavior on GML.
** Those basic references are
** the GML Charter and Guidelines
** Gerbil FAQ
** NGS Index
** GML mail list basics -- the excellent section at the IGF site
** Post the Charter and Guidelines twice a month instead of once. (I
know I could use the reminders more often.)
** Revise or forget about the little Subject codes to classify messages.
We don't use them as they are specified. (I tried diligently once and
gave up after a few days.) The reason we don't use them is that most
people's email readers cannot take advantage of them to organize GML
email.
