| That is a lot of power to give someone. It also requires a person who is
I think that Julian has said it best, as usual.
In the past few days I've thought about GML, as a community meeting place.
I was surprised and a bit flattered when Rebecca originally suggested we
needed a moderator and it should be Bill (yikes!) But it really bothered
me that we might implement some authoritarian thing (individual or
committee) to deal with a problem that arises only every couple years --
and the rest of the time sits like a cloud over how we all communicate
now.
Here are a few more modest opinions:
** It would be hard to find a better-functioning mail list/newsgroup than
GML. Credit is due to the veterans who made it this way.
** Nobody should expect GML's content to be tailored exactly to his/her
interests. Neither is your newspaper's content. Please be agreeable
about what does not interest you very much.
** Content and mood both shift almost daily. We are humans, and that's
how we function.
** If I had surfing kids, I'd be delighted for them to be using GML.
They can learn things about both gerbils and the rest of life.
** GML adapts and heals itself as if it were a living organism. Look at
what we are doing right now. We're discussing how to handle a major
recent problem that caused a lot of people discomfort -- and we're
expressing how we would like to see GML in the future.
