Hi there,

first of all hello, I am newly resubscribed to GML ('been here some time
ago)...
I have a problem with my three male gerbils. A litle bit of background:
I got my first gerbils (three girls) about 7 years ago. They got along
very well except for one fight when they were about 2 1/2. Gradually I
built/bought bigger tanks for them and as it is always the case :-( they
died (peacefully).
I definitely wanted to have gerbils again, so I contacted a local
breeder and she had some nice little boys (three again, two black, one
pied black.) This was about three years ago, and again, they got along
really well in their 80 liters aquarium.
In the summer of last year, they had their first biting incident: two of
them had obviously been involved in a fight (Alpher, the pied one looked
pretty bad because his collar was all bloody, but none of the was really
badly injured). We didn't want to seperate them immediately, and it
seemed that all was well again, no more fights...

... until the beginning of this year. Since then, there have been at
least 3 fights, each involving different pairs of gerbils, yesterday all
three of them were involved. Each time we hoped that they would come
together again (and they did, but just for a few days).

The Gerbil FAQ from the NGS did mention some stuff about fighting, but
mainly says that fighting is not very common in male groups...
My questions to you experienced breeders out there: Have you any
experience with fighting breaking out in the "later years"? Any success
in the gerbils making peace again?

Thanks for any help
Cheers
        Bernd
