Slow pace is good. Bring him a few presents in your hand, like sunflower
seeds,
Also, be aware that gerbils are very wary of anything that approaches from
above because it triggers instincts about preying birds. Approach him
from low, below and in front.
Have you read much about single gerbils? They are very social critters so
most experts say they should live in pairs.
