I found I had less respiratory infections using Carefresh.
I pretty much used it just for my breeding tank, all the
others do fine on corncob and/or aspen.

I don't see why not as long as it truly is "occasional".  I
have given mine crackers, corn chips, and potato chips.
Please keep in mind, though, these things are RARE treats.
I guess what I'm saying is a piece of cracker isn't going to
hurt a gerbil, but if you do it a lot it wouldn't be
healthy.
