Here is the rule I follow, respond positively to others not negatively.
If controversial threads, occur don't get involved, especially if its
not pertaining to gerbils. Praise often, others like to know that you
enjoyed a story they wrote, a web page they made, pictures they took
etc...
Also, when responding to gerbil messages respond to those which are
appropriate to the list if its not appropriate go to the next message.
If this is done. Appropriate messages will be reinforced while
inappropriate ones will not.
