It does have to do with the arguement when the arguemnts about the way of
things in the USA. Your country, society, culture etc's attitude to animals
is different. Ours is (unfortunatly) more commercial.
If a cat fancier charged significantly less than everyoen else for pedigreed
show cats- alot of peopel would have suspicions raised about the aniaml's
care, probably get a "polite" letter of request from their clubsof
memberships to do things abit differently and if they declined, probably
ostracized by alot of other fanciers... Probably couldnt be expelled from a
club on those grounds, but they'd not have many friends and probably get
asked to leave for "soem other reason".
Also keep in mind- in many european countries its not legal to sell or use
live animals for "feeders" (ive bene told). In the USA it IS. Thus rodent
breeders need to guard against this potential. (Raising prices also makes
americans see them as suddenly "not feeders" whcih helps their reputation
here). To address both these issues, many Rat/mouse fancier clubs actually
REQUIRE a minimum price that ALL breeders sellign animals at their sanctione
shows MUST place animals at as a minimum! ($10 is the usual "minimum" that
I see listed). If a breeder in one of these clubs sold animals there for
LESS than $10, it actually WOULDbe grounds for being banned from future
events or kicked out of the club!
