I have a slate male who is 6 months old. His coat is definitely not black,
it's more of a dark grey. His nails are greyish, almost clear. I don't have
any black-nailed gerbils to compare him to, but his nails are not dark. All
self-colored gerbils (black, slate, etc) sometimes have a few white hairs
scattered in their coat.
