I know this subject has been discussed before, but I have a slightly
different question about fleas.

I have two cats, neither of which is allowed outside. I have no other
pets other than the cats and my gerbils. Anyway, some fleas have found
their way into the house somehow (my vet says they probably jumped onto
my clothing outside and I carried them in).

I've been bitten three or four times in the last few days, and I also
found one flea on one of the gerbils yesterday. I called my vet, who
advised that I should use Advantage for the cats (which I've used
before; it works very well), have an exterminator do a one-time flea
treatment to the carpet, and do nothing for the gerbils other than
change their aspen and do thorough tank cleanings. She says they should
be able to clear a few fleas themselves as long as we get rid of the
adult fleas in the house and break their life cycle with Advantage on
the cats. I'm inclined to follow her advice, but just wondered if
anyone here has done similar, and with what results.

Thanks,
Rick
